2020 Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to the very first recipient of the PCHS Alumni Scholarship, Tyler Fernandez! We are so impressed by all of Tyler's accomplishments, and we couldn't think of anyone more deserving of this award.

Congratulations, Tyler!

The Pearl City High School Alumni Association is proud to announce Tyler Fernandez as our first ever scholarship recipient! Out of many competitive applicants, Tyler’s academic drive and passion for community service made him stand out amongst his peers. Tyler consistently involved himself in other organizations, such as the Boy Scouts of America, where he took on the role as a Senior Patrol Leader, and participated in football, track, paddling, and judo during his high school career. Not only was he a member of the Athletic Honor Society, but Tyler also graduated as Valedictorian of his class and will continue his studies at the University of Washington as a Biology major with the hopes of pursuing a career in physical therapy.

When asked about his best memories at PCHS, Tyler explained that he’ll miss the excitement of sports–the after practice talks, the hype of winning a game, and the friendly roasts between peers. Tyler owes his diverse friendships, unique experiences, and treasured memories to the “unparalleled brotherhood and environment” of Pearl City High School sports. As he continues his studies in Washington, Tyler looks forward to his independence and the new cultural experiences that wait for him.

As the scholarship committee was reviewing the applications, we were impressed to read about Tyler’s commitment to finding the balance between school, friends, and personal development which is a challenge that demands both maturity and introspection–a task not many people can accomplish. However, it is clear that he possesses these invaluable qualities, and we are pleased to award him this scholarship to support him as he embarks in this new chapter of his life.

The PCHS Alumni Scholarship was founded with the goal of promoting the pursuit of higher education and to recognize the incredible accomplishments of one graduating senior. Moving forward, we hope to continue recognizing these qualities in students who undoubtedly will make an impact on the Pearl City community by making this scholarship an annual tradition. As an association, we have the opportunity to not only pay it forward for the current generation of Chargers, but to also shift the attitude of pursuing any form of higher education in a more positive direction.

Tyler, we are excited for you to chase your dreams, both in terms of aspirations and experiences, and we cannot wait to hear about your achievements in the coming years. The alumni community of Pearl City High School is proud to call you our first recipient, and we are here to support you as you enter into this next stage of your life and take on new challenges. Once again, congratulations and best of luck at the University of Washington!
