2021 Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the 2021 recipients of the PCHS Alumni Scholarship, Mason Dasig and Hermary Gonzales!

The Pearl City High School Alumni Association is proud to announce Mason Dasig and Hermary Gonzales as this year's scholarship recipients!

Both Mason and Hermary will be going away for college, at Creighton University and University of Wisconsin - Madison, respectively. As leaving Hawaii can be daunting and expensive, the PCHSAA is happy to support their new endeavor through this scholarship award. This year’s recipients are stand-outs, and we are proud to share a bit about their time at PCHS.

Mason Dasig
Mason will be studying Biology at Creighton University in the fall. Mason has dedicated his high school career to gaining exposure and experience in the health field, as he was a member of HOSA, a CPR instructor, as well as a Surgical Instrument Processing Technician intern at Straub Medical Center. He was also involved in Student Council and Leo Club, on top of being a member of the Athletic Honor Society and the PCHS basketball team. All this while balancing a rigorous course load, Mason has graduated with the honors of Valedictorian.

Mason shared that he will miss the friendly atmosphere of PCHS, but he looks forward to maturing and growing through the experiences that await him at Creighton. Although he understands that this upcoming transition to college can be scary for some, Mason is excited to embrace the freedom and challenges in the next chapter of his life.

Hermary Gonzales
Hermary will be studying Wildlife Ecology at University of Wisconsin - Madison in the fall. Throughout her high school career, Hermary has dedicated her time to various leadership positions on campus, as well as to her community through mentorship opportunities. Her involvement in Science Olympiad, Student Council, Best Buddies, National Honor Society, and Air Riflery, demonstrate her commitment to PCHS. Not stopping there, she also gave back to the Pearl City community by serving as a coach and mentor to elementary and intermediate school students. Hermary’s balance of extracurriculars with her advanced course load has given her the honor of graduating as Valedictorian, as well.

Hermary shared that she will miss the spirit of PCHS Homecomings and the feeling of collectiveness amongst her peers that made the stress of being a part of council all worthwhile. However, as she goes on to bring her talent and skill to Wisconsin, where she will be able to gain experience with a variety of species, Hermary looks forward to joining different student organizations from conservation chapters to food clubs. She is excited for the new friendships that await, and the cheese, of course!

The PCHS Alumni Scholarship was founded with the goal of promoting the pursuit of higher education and to recognize the incredible accomplishments of PCHS graduating seniors. Moving forward, we hope to continue recognizing these qualities in students, who undoubtedly have made an impact on the Pearl City community, by making this scholarship an annual tradition. As an association, we have the opportunity to not only pay it forward for the current generation of Chargers, but to also shift the attitude of pursuing any form of higher education in a more positive direction.

Mason and Hermary, we are excited for you to experience all that the mainland has to offer, and we have no doubt that you will leave a legacy at your future schools as you did at Pearl City High School. Go on and do great things-- we cannot wait to hear all about it, and please remember that we are here to support you as you enter this next chapter in life filled with many moments of joy and growth. Once again, congratulations and best of luck, Mason and Hermary!
