Kristy Iwahashi-Marquez '10

Southern Arizona VA/3rd year Podiatry Resident

Kristy Iwahashi-Marquez is a PCHS Class of 2010 graduate and currently lives in Tucson, AZ for her Podiatric Surgery Residency program. If everything should go according to plan, Kristy will graduate residency in June 2021 and move back to Hawaii.

What type of training/education is appropriate for this position?

After graduating high school, I attended Chaminade University of Honolulu for 4 years to get my BS in Biology. Once I received my undergraduate degree and took the MCAT, I was accepted to the California School of Podiatric Medicine which is another 4 year program to achieve a doctorates degree. The last part of my education is the 3 year surgical Residency program I am currently attending and will hopefully graduate in June 2021.

What is one piece of advice you would give to current high school students?

My advice would be not to worry if you don't know exactly what career you want to do. Just knowing a general idea prior to choosing your undergraduate degree is adequate. Sometimes being set on an idea makes you miss great opportunities down the road.

What is one thing you wished you knew about your career while you were still in high school?

Other Advice/Information

Be open to opportunities that present to you, even if it's not something you are truly interested in.
