Michelle Pecson was born and raised on Oahu and graduated from PCHS in 1999. She spent her college years in California at Santa Monica College and California State University at Northridge. Michelle has experience in social work and finance and is currently in non-profit management. She is married to Jerico, a Class of 1997 alumnus, and has a son. Michelle and her family love to travel and mentor the youth.
What type of training/education is appropriate for this position?
I have a degree in History, which doesn't do too much in the field I'm in other than teach you to be analytical and see patterns. I've attained most of my training and education while working in the field and taking courses and trainings along the way. Great mentorships have been key in exploring various career paths.
What is one piece of advice you would give to current high school students?
Choose to position yourself as a learner for life and learn from as many wise people as you can. Always have a mentor because there is always something new to learn.
What is one thing you wished you knew about your career while you were still in high school?
That sometimes, it's not about the destination, but rather the growth that comes with the journey. Work 80% in your strengths but develop your weaknesses as well. Enjoying work isn't all about mastering the taskāit's about mastering yourself and having understanding and empathy for people.

I've never been "qualified" on paper for the positions I ended up in, I've just walked through the doors of opportunity that came along the way.
