Nyle Jordan Ocariza graduated from PCHS in 2018. He lives in Pearl City and currently works as an Accounting clerk in the Accounts Receivable Department at Hawai'i Pacific Property Management.

What type of training/education is appropriate for this position?

It's good to have a basic overview of reading financial statements, general ledgers, and trial balances. In addition, basic overview of Microsoft Excel and Word. A student should also have knowledge on creating a trial balance for multiple client accounts and vendors.

What is one piece of advice you would give to current high school students?

Always be understanding of everyone. You never know what that person is going through and by you noticing how they're feeling might brighten up their day.

What is one thing you wished you knew about your career while you were still in high school?

I wish I knew the different industries and sub-branches of all facets of accounting. For example, Governmental Accounting, Tax, and Audit are the major industries and in each industry has sub-branches. These sub-branches could include the private or public sector, IRS Auditor or General Auditor, and A Federal and State Accountant/Analyst.

Other Advice/Information

In your career, the people around you can have a great influence on how your life turns out. If you surround yourself with people who are always grinding, you will be forced to work hard as well.
