City and County of Honolulu EMS/Paramedic

Shara Molina is a Class of 1999 graduate and currently resides in Mililani. She has been a paramedic for the City and county of Honolulu EMS for 16 years and is currently a supervisor at one of the island’s ambulance units.

What type of training/education is appropriate for this position?

Completing fundamental liberal arts prerequisite for the EMT program at KCC. The program then requires 1 year on job training on an ambulance. Finally, finishing off with 18 month paramedic program at KCC.

What is one piece of advice you would give to current high school students?

Follow your dreams and your heart. They’ll usually steer you in the right direction.

What is one thing you wished you knew about your career while you were still in high school?

The physical and mental stress that one will endure, along with assisting the public.

Other Advice/Information

Being a first responder is a 24 hour position, but it is a full filing career.
